Hey, I'm trying to make a Tauriel cosplay for the third Hobbit film and I have a few questions. First of all, I can't find any good pictures of the back of the leather bodice. Is that just two flat pieces laced together in the center or is it fitted? Second, are the two back panels of the skirt overlapped? Third, do the back panels overlap the front panels at all? Finally, is the front of the dress top laced or is it a zipper - or is the opening in the back? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'll answer these to the best of my ability, as far as I can tell from what I've seen... (All according to the real costume, not my own.)
Delete1) I've never found a good picture of the back of the leather bodice, but if you look closely at this picture: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95138610851142128/ there seems to be some sort of closures in the back, which could possibly be similar to that of her bracers: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95138610852703737/ OR it could be laced up corset-style. Oh, and yes, the back is fitted. I want to say it has the same kind of paneling that the front does... but I can't confirm that.
2) I think the back panels of the skirt are overlapped slightly, but not much, and the overlap isn't secured with a seam. Just my personal theory, but you can kind of see it here: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95138610851792627/
3) Yes, the front panels of the skirt overlap on top of the back ones a good couple inches, as you can see here: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95138610851264696/ and here: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95138610851850156/
4) I actually just looked this up for ya... so, you can see the dress without the leather bodice in this clip, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7k1bAqesXw and here's a screenshot I made: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95138610852703853/ Yep, same kind of lacing as the fabric bodice that goes over the leather one: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95138610850955334/
I, personally, ended up having no opening in my dress, and made it so I could simply slip it on over my head. It's just easier that way. ;)
Hope this helped, and good luck with your cosplay! Oh, and this might help you; my Pinterest board with lots of reference pictures and such for Tauriel's costume: http://www.pinterest.com/AnElvenPrincess/to-be-an-elf-tauriel-cosplay/ :)
Thank you!
DeleteHi Beth!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get your arrows? Some of mine broke and I want to get them replaced.
Thanks! Your costume is AWESOME! Oh, one more question: was anybody else dressed up as Tauriel (besides your friend) in the Midnight Premiere?
I got the arrows on Amazon.com actually! :D Another great website for arrows (and bows) is www.thecrossbowstore.com :)
DeleteHehe ;) thanks again! Acutally, yes! There was at least one other girl... but it was a obviously a "closet cosplay" -- like, just green dress and brown boots. But no one else actually *cosplaying* Tauriel. :)
I found a website:
